Membership
in the Association of
Ship Brokers & Agents (U.S.A.), Inc.
Our Association
is unlike most others serving the Maritime Industry. We are uniquely
focused and our membership is restricted to business establishments
that are actively and regularly engaged in business as ship brokers
or agents. For companies whose business regularly interfaces with our
membership, the Association also extends membership as Affiliates.
For membership purposes, ship broker shall mean a company
who arranges for or negotiates the employment of vessels under bareboat,
voyage, or time chartered contracts or who arrange for the buying and
selling of ships for unaffiliated principals/companies.
Agents shall mean persons or companies who have a contact
with a shipowning company to perform all acts in connection with a specific
transaction. Liner, port, and tramp agents are eligible for membership
in ASBA.
Dues are paid on the basis of a two-tier membership. Companies with
three or more brokers/agents or Affiliate members pay a $800.00 annual
membership fee. Companies with one or two brokers/agents pay a $450.00
annual membership fee. Dues will be invoiced once the application is
approved by the membership and your election to membership is confirmed.
Company membership in the Association provides both tangible and intangible
benefits to its agency and brokerage membership. These include: permission
to use the ASBA logo on corporate letterhead and full voting privileges
at the ASBA general membership meeting and throughout the year. You
can qualify for nomination to serve as committee member, chairperson,
director or officer of the Association. Membership gives you the ability
to address grievances, disputes, or misunderstandings with other member
agents or brokers through the ASBA Ethics Committee/Board of Directors.
Participation in social functions, seminars and educational programs
sponsored by the Association gives you a unique opportunity keep abreast
of the market as well as to get to know your peers. Your listing will
also appear on the ASBA Website, Roster of Members and Home Communications
List.
Affiliate members of the Association enjoy all of the same benefits
as company members with the exception of voting privileges and holding
office.
